NEW HAVEN â Heidi Sigmund of Newtown, Joseph Mancini of Bethel and Vincent Polacco of Danbury were among 49 Connecticut graduates who earned the position of Associate Supervisor in the US Postal Service after 16 weeks of training in postal operations.
Participants in the Associate Supervisor Program graduated at a ceremony January 27 at the 500 Blake Street restaurant in New Haven. John F. Walsh, a member of the Postal Serviceâs Board of Governors, addressed the graduates and joined Jo Saunders, Connecticut district manager of the USPS, and William Galligan, Connecticut manager of processing and distribution, in presenting the diplomas.
âThe Associate Supervisor Program is an important investment in our future,â Jo Saunders said. âThese graduates have worked very hard and we look to them to use their training, skills, and experience in a leadership role.â
Mr Marcini was honored as the class valedictorian.
Applicants to the program undergo a scrutinizing selection process. Out of more than 1,500 Connecticut applicants, 189 have graduated from the program since its inception in 1996.
Through classroom sessions and on-the-job-training, the program prepares the next generation of postal supervisors to optimize customer service and overall efficiency while creating a positive work environment for all employees.
Already, several program graduates in Connecticut have risen to the position of postmaster and station manager.
