The 2000-2001 budget for the Borough of Newtown was unanimously approved Tuesday evening at a meeting called by the Board of Burgesses in Town Hall South.
Only one resident showed up to vote.
The $172,635 budget reflects a 6 percent increase over the current budget and requires a mill rate of 1.03. The current mill rate is 1. The $10,101 increase in spending includes an additional $6,000 for the boroughâs streetscape sidewalk repair project and $2,115 for costs associated with more frequent meetings of the Borough Zoning Commission.
Most of the borough budget is used to pay for fire hydrants, street lighting, and sidewalks in the center of Newtown.
