Woman’s Club Scholarship

The Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, awarded Newtown resident Michelle Thompson a $1,000 scholarship to finish her undergraduate degree in teaching.

Ms Thompson is currently an educational assistant with the autism program at Hawley School. She is attending Western Connecticut University, where she is studying elementary education and psychology.

“I’m thrilled. I think it really reflects the hard work I’ve done this year,” Ms Thompson said. “I’m really glad to receive it.”

The Women’s Club Memorial Scholarship committee gave 12 out of 23 applications scholarships this year, according to Newtown Women’s Club education chairman Kay Ozanne. In order to be a recipient, applicants have to maintain an average 3.0 GPA and be two to three years into their undergraduate study. Scholarships are given out annually.
