AA - #290208 FOUR ARTISTS SHOW AT PEPPER GALLERY - “PEPPER” W/2 CUTS

CBR/KC

BOSTON, MASS. – Through August 17, Pepper Gallery will show work by four artists: Boston mixed-media artist Bradford Johnson, Boston photographer Lance Keimig, Philadelphia printmaker Ron Rumford, and Boston painter Thomas Tietjen. This will be the first time Mr Keimig, Mr Rumford, and Mr Tietjen have exhibited at Pepper Gallery. Mr Johnson has shown work previously in Pepper Gallery’s 2000 “Summer Landscapes” exhibition.

Bradford Johnson’s panoramic mixed-media landscapes are created through a highly unique combination of photographic-transfer and painterly techniques. Drawing inspiration from the work of Arthur Pinkham Ryder, Johnson’s abstracted images of land and sea are heavily layered atmospheric studies of the Maine coastline.

Lance Keimig’s nighttime cibachrome photographs of surreal industrial scenes depict the often mysterious beauty and intrigue of off-limits places. He allows his artistic fantasy free reign among the glowing fluorescent-lit structures and machinery of industry as he captures these often overlooked places on the remote outskirts of towns and cities.

Ron Rumford’s unusual drypoint monoprints are created through a technique using baked polymer clay to create textured printing plates that serve as a matrix for his abstract printed line imagery. As an artist, Rumford seems to travel metaphorically within the looping lines of his prints, suggesting both introspective personal journeys and the distortion of time and space.

Thomas Tietjen’s oil on canvas paintings of still lifes are contemplative studies of the quality of light, form, and color appearing within everyday objects. A classically trained painter, Tietjen concerns himself primarily with the “purely visual experience” of his work rather than implied allegory or narrative. Through the enlarged depiction of torn packages, boxes, and stacks of letters, he seeks to focus solely on the gesture and color relationships of objects as they appear on the canvas.
