Shaun Cavanaugh, a 1999 graduate of Newtown High School and junior midfielder with the Wheaton College men’s soccer team, was named Player of the Year in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

Cavanaugh, who was selected as an All-New England player as a sophomore, is second in the NEWMAC in scoring (1.85 points a game) with 14 goals and 21 assists. He started in all 20 games and recorded seven game-winning goals.

His 14 goals is four shy of the school record.

Liz Bishop

Liz Bishop, a 2000 graduate of St. Joseph’s School in Trumbull and sophomore goaltender for the Ithaca College women’s soccer team, was named to the Empire 8 All-Star team. She started 14 games in goal and recorded a 0.93-goals against average with an .821 save percentage.

Cindy Schlier

Cindy Schlier, a 1999 graduate of Newtown High School and junior member of the Susquehanna University women’s tennis team, completed her second season with a 10-1 record playing primarily sixth singles.
