Kendall E. Zimmerman of Sandy Hook was named to the dean’s list at Northeastern University for the winter quarter. Ms Zimmerman is majoring in psychology.

Ashwini Srikantiah of Sandy Hook, a senior majoring in television-radio-film in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, received the Mary Zoretski Key Award at the school’s awards celebration held April 29. The Mary Zoretski Key Award is presented annually by the Newhouse School to an outstanding senior woman majoring in communications.

Michael Rigoli, son of Charlene and Vincent Rigoli of Newtown, was inducted to the acting honors society Alpha Psi Omega, and this year was elected president of the chapter. He graduated from Newtown High School in 2000. Mr Rigoli is a theater and English major at Roanoke College.

Betsy P. Earle of Newtown was recognized during the University of Rhode Island’s President’s Award to Student Excellence program given to seniors for their academic achievement in a particular field. Ms Earle is a management major.

Allyson Themel, daughter of Cheryl and Peter Themel of Newtown, was named to the fall 2002 dean’s list at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Thomas Jonathan Hunt, son of Steven Hunt of Sandy Hook, was named to the dean’s list at Washington and Lee University for the winter term.

Cynthia Schlier of Newtown presented the results of her research at the 2003 Senior Scholars’ Day at Susquehanna University held April 22. Her research, “Lil’ Kim: Icon of Feminine Power,” was supervised by David Ramsaran and Simona Hill of the sociology and anthropology department.

Erin Delohery, daughter of Margaret and Sean Delohery of Newtown, and Jessica Horvath, daughter of Raymond and Lucille Chaves-Horvath of Sandy Hook, and seniors at Newtown High School, recently participated in the 58th Annual Citizenship Education Conference sponsored by the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. Ms Delohery will enroll in Syracuse University’s School of Architecture this fall.
