Letter Carrierâs Food Drive Is May 10
Saturday is the day!
Newtown postal workers are hoping residents will remember to put out bags of nonperishable food and canned goods next to their mailboxes by 9 am for collection by the mail carriers as they follow their regular delivery routes.
The postal workersâ food drive is the 11th annual event and organizer Rob Frangione is hoping to top last yearâs record of 1,200 pounds of food donated. Volunteers have been organized to meet Saturday afternoon at the Newtown, Hawleyville, and Botsford post offices to help sort and box the food items as they come in.
At the end of the drive, a town truck will pick up the boxes and deliver them to the FAITH Food Pantry and to Newtown Social Services for distribution to Newtown and Sandy Hook families who are in need.
Residents are reminded to use plastic bags filled with canned food, dried food, and various household or baby goods, as well as cleaning goods or laundry detergent. No glass jars or bottles will be accepted because of the possibility of breakage.
Any questions, call Mr Frangione at 426-4271.
