The Sunday morning worship is a new project of the Newtown Congregational Church Womenâs Fellowship that is planning the entire service under the chairmanship of Evie Watts.
The Fellowship was recently awarded a Blanket Fund Honor Roll Certificate for donating $697 to the Church World Service Blanket Fund and received a thank you for their Gifts From the Heart kits that were delivered last spring. These were layettes for babies in need. The Tri-State Region sent 10,000 kits, totaling 20,000 pounds. This is a program the Fellowship will continue. Other service projects include Check Instead of a Card to benefit retired ministers, adopting a family for the Newtown Fund Holiday Basket project, and raising money for various missions.
In preparation for the new kitchen in the Sunday School building now in progress, the ladies removed dishes from the Church House and have them stored at their home.
Various miscellaneous supplies are being sorted by the Circle of Faith, one of the four fellowship groups of the church, which is led by Betty Williams and meets the second Thursday of each month at the Church House. They make and donate school bags as well.
The Circle of Love, led by Joan Tynan and Jane Landgrebe, sent 1,460 Campbell labels to Eton House. This group meets the fourth Wednesday at 7:30 pm in private homes. It makes and donates sewing kits.
The Circle of Grace, led by Barbara Field, meets the fourth Tuesday at 7:30 pm in the Church House. They are planning four fundraisers at My Place this year and worked on the successful August 30 flea market. The plan is to make this an annual event.
The Circle of Hope is led by Charlotte Kalley and meets on the second Tuesday at 9:30 am in private homes. This group makes and donates health kits.
The Womenâs Fellowship mission is to unite the women in the United Church of Christ by cultivating the spirit of Christ in every area of human life and by providing guidance and encouragement through worship, study, and service. The Newtown Congregational Church Womenâs Fellowship is inclusive of all women in the church. The circles are held together by forming a Womenâs Fellowship representative board that meets monthly.
Margee Keegan and Terri Ferris head the Ways and Means Committee that pulled everyone together for the August 30 flea market. The Fellowship will work with them for the next one in 2004.
Carol Smiley will be announcing a quilt raffle next week, planned by the church Ways and Means Committee.
