Shelley’s New England Landscape

RIDGEFIELD/WILTON — The Weir Farm Trust and the National Park Service will be continuing “Artists at Weir Farm,” a series of exhibitions in the Burlingham House Visitor Center at Weir Farm National Historic Site, with an exhibition of recent works by Jen Shelley. The show opened on September 4 and will remain on view until November 2

All are invited to meet Ms Shelley at an artists’ reception on Saturday, September 13, from 2 to 4 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

Jen Shelley has had a long standing relationship with Weir Farm, supporting the site and its mission as a volunteer for over ten years. As an artist, her primary focus is the New England landscape. With gouache, watercolor and oil paint she creates luscious landscape views of the four seasons.

Her intuitive response to nature’s ever changing color has been captured in the selection of paintings being presented at Weir Farm. Often painting en plein aire at the farm, Ms Shelley strives to tell a direct and simple short story as she records a timeless impression.

Ms Shelley, who lives and works in Wilton, has had her work exhibited throughout Connecticut and New York including the Salamagundi Club, “Art of the Northeast” at Silvermine Guild Galleries in New Canaan, and by Northern Westchester Center for the Arts.  She is the recipient of numerous Awards, most recently receiving Best in Show from Wilton Arts Council for its annual exhibition.

This exhibition series is made possible by the Weir Farm Trust with support from the National Park Service, Connecticut Commission on the Arts, J.P. Morgan Chase Foundation, Charles and Mildred Schnurmacher Foundation, George and Grace Long Foundation, and the Daphne S. Culpeper Foundation.

Weir Farm National Historic Site is Connecticut’s only National Park Site. Its Visitor Center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Historic Art Studio Tours are offered every Wednesday through Saturday at 11 am, and 1 and 3 pm, and on Sundays at 1 and 3 pm.

Stone Walls Walking Tour are also available each Sunday at 11 am.

The site straddles property in Ridgefield and Wilton, and its main entrance is at 735 Nod Hill Road in Wilton. For additional information call 203-834-1896 or visit www.nps.gov.wefa/home.htm.
