Gertrude Jekyll: An Early Multiple Talent

WOODBURY — Professor Michael Tooley will make a special presentation, “Gertrude Jekyll: Artist, Gardener, Craftswoman,” on Thursday, May 20, at 7 pm, at Saint Paul’s Church, 294 Main Street South.

Admission is $15. Prof Tooley, who co-edited Gertrude Jekyll: Essays on The Life of a Working Amateur, will discuss the woman (1843-1932) who created over 400 gardens in the United Kingdom, Europe and America and whose influence is still seen.

The lecture will coincide with a plant sale, “Miss Jekyll’s Favorites,” scheduled for Saturday, May 22, from 10 am to 4 pm, at Glebe House Museum & Gertrude Jekyll Garden, 49 Hollow Road in Woodbury. Call 203-263-2855 for details about either event.
