Tsunami Relief Event, Sunday
At The Palace Theater
WATERBURY â Concerned citizens from the greater Waterbury area and surrounding communities are organizing âFrom The Hearts of Connecticut: A Tsunami Relief Eventâ at The Palace Theater in Waterbury. The event will be Sunday, February 13, from 5 until 8 pm, and will include live entertainment, a wine tasting, food from area restaurants and caterers, and a silent auction.
The money raised will benefit two charities: Feed The Children and AmeriCares, the Connecitucut-based international relief agency.
The event organizers are concerned women from many CT towns who have come together to help support the families facing the catastrophic hardship of rebuilding after the tsunami in southeast Asia on December 26.
âWe all felt called to raise money and put our hearts together as a community in an effort to support the victims,â said Carole Winer Sorensen, one of the event organizers.
Tickets (tax deductible) are available at the Palace Theater, in advance or at the door, for $35 per person. Visit www.PalaceTheaterCT.org or call 203-755-4700. Advance notification would be appreciated, but tickets will be sold on Sunday if available.
Ample parking is available at the Scovill Parking Garage, next to the Palace.
The following area musical artists and performers will highlight the eveningâs event: Jan Maki and the Berkshire Big Band, singer-songwriter Ron Sorensen, pianist Nancy McMillan, vocalist Becca Anderson, and clarinetist Dr Vincent Deluise.
Jordanâs Caterers of Cheshire, named Connecticutâs Best Caterer by Connecticut Magazine for the last five years, is coordinating the fare. Specializing in contemporary American and international cuisine, the executive chef, operations manager and owners of Jordanâs will be donating select hors dâoeuvres, and their time, to the event.
Local restaurants have also promised hors dâoeuvres and desserts, coffee is being donated by Starbucks of Danbury, and Pepperidge Farm and Coca-Cola Enterprises have offered donations.
