Dorothy M. Fritz Sands

100 Years Old

Dorothy M. Fritz Sands, a resident of Pomperaug Woods in Southbury since 1995 and former longtime resident of Beacon, N.Y., died January 13 at Bethel Health Care Center. She was 100.

Born in Groton, N.Y., on June 6, 1905, she was the daughter of Asa and Ruth Clark Hyde. She was married to Andrew M. Fritz, who preceded her in death in October 1967, and then to Joseph P. Sands, who also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Kirk of Newtown; grandsons, Jeffrey Kirk, Newtown, and Michael Kirk and his wife, Tracy, Southbury; granddaughter, Kimberly Gardner and her husband, William, Brookfield; and three great-grandchildren, Maegan, Kirk, and Lauren Gardner, Brookfield.

Mrs Sands was an elementary school teacher in the Beacon City School District, retiring in 1966. She was a longtime member of Melzingah Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Beacon.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held January 17 at St John’s, Beacon, N.Y. Interment followed in St Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.  Contributions in Mrs Sand’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
