Celebrating Charles Ives
DANBURY â Danbury Music Centre will present the annual birthday celebration of the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Charles E. Ives, who was born in Danbury on October 20, 1874, on Sunday, October 16. This year marks the 131st anniversary of his birth.
On Sunday, October 16, hosts Nancy F. Sudik, executive director of Danbury Music Centre, and Larry Deming, concert master of Danbury Symphony Orchestra, and invited guests Danbury Brass Band under the direction of Alan Ralph, conductor, will present an all-day celebration.
Events throughout the day will also include a hike up Pine Mountain to the location of the cabin erected by Ives and his brother in the early 1900s; a tour of the birth home, presented by Brigid Guertin, director of Danbury Museum; a visit to Ivesâs grave at Wooster Cemetery; and a performance of the 25-member Danbury Brass Band in the gazebo on the lawn of Bethel Town Hall on School Street in Bethel (rain location is Danbury Music Centre).
On display at the Charles Ives birth home will be Ives projects created by students from Great Plain Elementary School in Danbury.
Admission to all the events is free. Registration for all events, except the concert, is suggested due to space limitations.
