Donald Perley

World War II Veteran

Donald B. Perley, of New Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Huntington (Conn.), died October 3, following a long illness and just three weeks shy of his 90th birthday.

He was the brother of Kenneth Perley of Newtown and the beloved uncle of Shannon Hicks of Newtown.

He was born and raised in Huntington, and lived most of his life on Lane Street, first in a farmhouse owned by his parents, Charles and Margaret Perley, and then in a neighboring house into which he and his wife, June, moved following their marriage.

Later in their life together Mr and Mrs Perley began dividing their time between their home in Huntington and a home in Florida. The Perleys moved permanently into their home at Seven Springs, in New Port Richey, in 1998.

Mr Perley retired from the Alcoa Company of America, and later owned and operated Central Sheet Metal, Inc, in Westport.

Mr Perley was a charter member of Brownson Country Club Golf Course, which was founded in Huntington in 1960. Until just a few years ago, when his health prevented him from playing, he was an avid golfer.

He was a Navy veteran, and served during World War II. He was Episcopalian by faith.

In addition to his brother and niece, Mr Perley is survived by two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Donovan of Dunedin, Fla., and Marge Perley of Huntington; a nephew and his wife, Skip and Barb Perley, of Henderson, Nev.; another nephew and his family, Al and Winnie Perley of Huntington, and their children, Jessica and Luke; nephew and wife, Christopher and Allison Perley of Stratford, and their children Madyson and Samantha; a niece, Marcia Hicks of Southbury; a niece, Candace Sanford, of Gloversville, N.Y., and her children Tommy, Ann, Jim, and Joe; niece and husband, Christy (Hicks) and Louis Spinelli of Middlebury, and their children, Danielle and Cory; and more extended family members and countless friends young and old.

Mr Perley was predeceased in 2000 by his dear wife, June (Miller) Perley. He was also predeceased by his parents and two of his three brothers, Allan and Charles (“Chick”) Perley.

Arrangements were made by North/Meadowlawn Funeral Home of New Port Richey.

As per Mr Perley’s wishes, there were no services held in Florida or Connecticut. He will be cremated, and then buried at Lawn Cemetery on Lane Street in Huntington.
