Erik Street Named Nutmeg Games Athlete Of Year
Newtownâs Erik Street was selected as the 2008 Nutmeg State Games Male Athlete of the Year and was honored at banquet at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington on March 5. Street.
Street, a sixth-grader at Reed Intermediate School, led his baseball team into the medal round of the Nutmeg Games last summer. The first baseman and cleanup hitter impressed his coaches with his leadership, selfless play and sportsmanship on and off the field. He was nominated for the award by his coach, Bobby Elias.
Street is also an avid football and basketball player. He is a lineman on the Newtown youth football team that has been undefeated for four seasons and captured the 2006 American Youth Football National Championship in Florida.
Outside of athletics, Street plays trumpet in the school band and helps his community through the Interact Club. He also enjoys skiing and participating in water sports with his brothers Alex and Jack.
