Home-Grown Vegetables & Herbs May Save Money, Help Diet

DANBURY — Looking for ways to save money and improve your diet at the same time? Danbury Public Library will host a “Grow Your Own Vegetables and Herbs” program on Saturday, April 18, from 2 to 3 pm.

Janine Meyer, assistant manager at Fort Hill Farm, a certified organic farm in New Milford, will provide participants with the steps to prepare a garden or container for planting that include sun and watering requirements as well as information on fertilizing, pruning, harvesting, storing and preserving.

Participants will receive a package of seeds, donated by John Scheepers Kitchen Garden Seeds in Bantam, as long as supplies last. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Danbury Library.

For additional information call the library’s Community Relations office at 796-8061. The library is at 170 Main Street, with parking available off West Street.
