From The Pitch — Youth Soccer Scores

Girls

U8

Desserts 6, Monkees 3: It was all sweets and monkeying around on Saturday as the Desserts outlasted the Monkees 6-3. Jacklin Gouviea scored a hat-trick and Carly Sweirbut and Ally Tolson scored goals for the Desserts. For the Monkees, Sophia Andrew and Katelyn Henchcliffe tallied goals and Nicole Keeping played an all-around solid game. 

American Eagles 4, Thundering Jaguars 1: Lauren Carrino (2), Rylee Mulligan and Olivia Hage scored for the American Eagles. Kira Smith and Joy Metzger led the team’s strong defensive effort, and Rachel Tomasino made several outstanding saves in goal. Victoria Keayes played a great overall game. For the Thundering Jaguars, Alexis Mason scored and Tess Hubbard played great offense. Carolina Stubbs was strong in goal and Audrey Sedensky had a good overall game.

Soccer Stars 2, American Eagles 1: Cassidy and Kelley Kortze scored for the Soccer Stars. Maggie Beardsley and Anna Moscovici played terrific offensive games, while Rebecca Gault anchored her team’s strong defense. For the American Eagles, Rylee Mulligan scored on an assist from Kira Smith. Grace Sholtes played a tremendous all-around game and Brianna Lovely led a strong defensive effort.

U9

Dynamites: 1, Fighting Irish: 0: Catherine Shaw scored the lone goal of the game to lead the Dynamites.  Angela and Veronica Vidola played well offensively, while Kira Kelly and Danny Gaiser led the team defensively. The Fighting Irish was led offensively by Priya Deraney and Audrey Benson, while Vanessa Tucker and Carly Carpenter had strong defensive games.

U11

New Canaan 3, Comets 1: The lone goal for Newtown was set up by Kimberly Brello and Brittney Antous as Alana Murray found the net. Veronica Moyer provided great offensive pressure in the first half and Brenna Kelly played well. Julia Schoeni was solid at stopper throughout the match with great back up by Sarah Lyon. Emily Charash and Katie Mossbarger handled the goalkeeping.

Comets 1, Fairfield 1: The Comets finished their season in a well-played battle. Katie Mossbarger and Alyssa Ruefenacht made difficult saves to secure the tie, while Victoria Kirkman was a workhorse on defense. Following a scramble just outside the box, Casey Harkins centered to Quinn Karp who managed to finish the shot in heavy traffic. Christina Debartolomeo provided good midfield support.

U14

Twisters 6, Smiters  2: For the Twisters, Lauren Sarna scored twice and Samantha Luzietti, Caitlin Filiato, Aofie Flanagan and Bella Saraceni scored. Strong defense by Anna Pinckney and Hayley Naphen and goaltending by Jenna Hansen led the way. For the Smiters, Claire Miles scored twice. Aileen Sheluck, Mandy Melee, Jackie Mooney, Lizzie Wojcik and Sophia deVivo had great games.

Stamford 2, Flash 1: The Newtown Flash put forth a strong team effort, but came up just short with the final Stamford goal scored near the end of the game.  The Flash goal was scored in the first half with a nice midfield pass from Stephanie Roman to Bianca Solano, who sent a well placed kick over the head of the Stamford goalkeeper. Strong defense kept the Flash in the game with gritty efforts from Abby Blakeman, Kelly Brooks, Jilliana Ciamarra and Kyra Murray  Flash keeper Emily Brisson was on her toes and fended off multiple initial and rebound shot attempts.

Tidal Waves 1, Earthquakes 1: For the Tidal Waves, a goal was scored by Meghan Grimes with an assist by Emily Grimes. Great goaltending by Jesse Sailer and strong defense by Renee Henriques and Jen Davies.  Great all around play by Marissa Liberante and Victoria Madden. The lone goal for the Earthquakes was scored by Hannah Booth. Kelly O’Connell, Rebecca Frank, Makenzie Casey and Ashley Marks all played well.

Boys

Newtown Strikers 4, New Canaan 3: Newtown won its last game of the season with a 4-3 victory over New Canaan. Bryce Mather scored the first goal of the game, Jonathan Guilherme added another and Cole Rogalin had two. The Strikers received strong defensive efforts from John Carlson, Robby Schreiber and Alex Gerbo. Matt Stewart and Zachary Laros shared the time in goal. The win gave the Strikers a 5-2-1 record for the season, and the team placed third in the Southwest District.

U14

The Oskars 6, ManU 2: Albert Dean had a hat-trick and Spencer Tolson scored two goals for The Oskars. Jake Locorotondo anchored the defense and Blake Untiedt and Lukas Palumbo played great at midfield.  For ManU, goals by Gavin Scallon and Miguel Rodriguez and strong offense from Brandon Parks led the effort. On defense, the team had strong play from Sinclair Sore and Omar Rodriguez.
