Take Advantage Of

The Digital Photo Process

“How to Take Advantage of the Digital Photo Process” will be the subject of Ken Graff’s presentation at the meeting of Flagpole Photographers on Thursday, June 18, at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street. The  last meeting and competition of the year for the club begins at 7:30 pm.

Mr Graff, a retired professional photographer who spent more than 30 years at Union Carbide, will make what has become his annual presentation on digital photography to the club. This year’s program will show club members the many aspects of software programs that assist in making better photographs.

At Union Carbide in the mid 1990s, Mr Graff was one of the first professionals to embrace the digital age of photography, first by scanning film and eventually converting to digital cameras and computers.

Mr Graff  will demonstrate the Lightroom program to illustrate the techniques he uses to save time in editing and managing large amounts of digital files. Lightroom, Aperature and ACDSee Pro are a new breed of software developed specifically for photographers. Unlike Photoshop — which edits pixels — these programs  write instructions which are saved along with the original picture file so that the photographer’s work is accomplished in a non destructive format that can be changed at any time.

Multiple files  can be processed at once and create virtual copies with different settings. The programs include a visual database that makes finding files or photos extremely easy.

For this meeting, the club’s competition subject is Patterns. There will also be an open competition (any subject the photographer chooses) and a digitally enhanced division, which must use the pattern theme. Three visiting judges will choose the winners.

Nomination of officers for the new year starting in September will be presented and the members will choose the subjects they wish to shoot for the competition meetings next season.

Guests are always welcome. Additional information is available at FlagpolePhotographers.com or by calling 364-1441.
