Vet Benefits Seminar, Healing Hearts Workshop Slated

SOUTHBURY — Veterans or spouses of veterans may be eligible for up to $23,388 per year in long-term care benefits to help pay for assisted living or home care.

Peter DiMaria of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs will speak about different veterans’ benefits on Friday, October 22, at 10 am, at the Jewish Federation, 444 Main Street North.

He will provide information about VA benefits including service connected disability, non-service connected pension, VA healthcare, tax exemption, and assisted living facility benefits. Veterans, spouses, survivors, and adult children of veterans will all have an opportunity to ask questions at this informative seminar.

Seating for this session is limited. To register, call Debby Horowitz at Brownstein Jewish Family Service at 203-267-3177, extension 105.

In other news, a four-part workshop for adults who have had a loved one die is being offered, at no cost, on Wednesdays, October 20, 27 and November 3, 10 from 1 to 2:30 pm, at The Federation.

“Rebuilding Your Life After Loss” is a beneficial series of workshops based upon “healthy” grieving with emphasis on education to guide anyone who has had a personal loss toward more successful rebuilding of their lives.

Those who attend will find insight and learn strategies for working through their grief. Participation in all four workshops is recommended.

Workshops will be facilitated by Kendall Palladino, MDiv, ACPE, who is director of Bereavement & Spiritual Services for Regional Hospice. He has more than a decade of experiencing supporting people with serious, life-limiting illness and loss.

Mr Palladino has degrees from Harvard and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and is pursuing a doctorate at Princeton University.

The Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families, a program of Regional Hospice, offers numerous support groups, workshops and programs to the public free of cost throughout the year.

For more information or to participate in the upcoming workshop, call Healing Hearts at 203-792-4422. To find out more about Regional Hospice, visit www.RegionalHospiceCT.org.
