Police Continue Seeking Whereabouts Of Missing Man
By Andrew Gorosko
Police on Thursday morning continued seeking the whereabouts of a local man who was reported as missing from his home on Monday night.
Missing is William Fitzgibbons, 56, of 11 Fox Run Lane South, according to police.
âHe has not been found yetâ¦We are still actively looking for himâ¦We have not heard of any sightings,â said police Lieutenant George Sinko.
Police have no reason to believe that Mr Fitzgibbonsâ disappearance was suspicious, the lieutenant said. Police have no information regarding any medical issues that could have resulted in his disappearance, Lt Sinko said.
The last time that Mr Fitzgibbons had contact with his wife, Jayne, was at about 5 pm on Monday, when he called her from a service telephone at the Big Y supermarket at 6 Queen Street, Lt Sinko said. Mr Fitzgibbons told his wife that he was having vehicle problems and that he would be home late, the lieutenant added.
Police have verified that Mr Fitzgibbons was at the Big Y through review of its video security recordings, Lt Sinko said.
Mr Fitzgibbons had left his cellphone at home that day and thus police are not able to geographically identify the locations where he would be using that cellphone, Lt Sinko explained.
âHeâs left us with a limited ability to track him other than his vehicle,â Lt Sinko said.
Mr Fitzgibbons was last seen driving a white 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV bearing Connecticut marker plate 709-EFK.
Mr Fitzgibbons, who is self-employed as a financial trader, works at home, according to police.
Considering that Mr Fitzgibbons is an adult male who was driving a vehicle, police have no reason to conduct a ground search in seeking him, unless the vehicle is located, Lt Sinko said.
Police have contacted other law enforcement agencies to have their personnel be on the lookout for Mr Fitzgibbons and the SUV.
Mr Fitzgibbons is a white male who is about 6-foot, 1-inch tall, and weighs about 185 pounds. He is bald with blue eyes and wears eyeglasses. He was last seen wearing jeans with a mock turtle neck shirt and a green sweater vest.
On Monday at about 9:30 pm, Jayne Fitzgibbons reported to Newtown police that her husband, William, had not come home that day and was missing. Ms Fitzgibbons had last seen her husband at home at about 1:30 pm that day.
âWe have some avenues that weâre looking into,â Lt Sinko said of various undisclosed leads that police are exploring in the manâs disappearance.
âWe hope that someone will recognize him and contact us,â Lt Sinko said.
On Wednesday evening near the Big Y supermarket, friends of Ms Fitzgibbons were seen handing out leaflets bearing a photo and description of Mr Fitzgibbons and listing him as a âmissing person.â
Attempts to reach Ms Fitzgibbons on Thursday morning were unsuccessful.
Police ask anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr Fitzgibbons to contact the police detective division at 203-426-5841.
