Attendance was down last week, no doubt in large part due to the heatwave, but organizers would like to remind residents that there will be a Summer Jam Concert at Dickinson Park this afternoon.

“The predicted weather for today looks as though it is perfect for a picnic in the park and some hands-on drumming and family fun,” said Erin Masotta, who approached Parks & Rec Director Amy Mangold earlier this year with the idea of a family and children’s summer concert series.

“Bob Bloom is performing today and he is bringing drums so the children can participate,” said Mrs Masotta.

Admission to the weekly concerts, presented by Claris Construction Inc, is free. Performances begin at 12:30 pm.

Master teaching artist Bob Bloom leads interactive drumming programs with an array of drums and world percussion instruments. He leads everyone to play along with joy-filled rock & roll, boogie, funk, folk, and swing songs that have catchy beats and engaging melodies.

The series continues for two more weeks, with Robert The Guitar Guy visiting Newtown next Wednesday. Zak Morgan will then offer the season finalé on August 7.

Shows are suitable for all ages. Dickinson Park is at 50 Elm Drive.
