Adopt A Shelter Dog
At DAWS
DANBURY â October is âAdopt A Shelter Dogâ month at Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) and at animal shelters across the United States.
During this month, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), in conjunction with animal welfare groups nationwide, highlight the ongoing tragedy faced by thousands of dogs waiting for homes in shelters across the nation.
More than five million of these adoptable dogs are euthanized each year because there is just not enough room for them at many shelters. At DAWS, much of the rescue work is focused on rescuing these family friendly dogs whose time is running out.
This October and year round, DAWS provides these rescue efforts with a dedicated crew of volunteers.
âIt is our goal during Adopt A Shelter Dog Month in October, to raise the Danbury communityâs awareness about the many dogs in need of adoption,â said Donna Esposito, co-chair of the DAWS Dog Committee. âWe hope to encourage people to celebrate the month by considering adopting one of the many dogs who have unfortunately found themselves in need of a loving home and currently reside at the Danbury Animal Welfare Societyâs shelter facility in Bethel.â
Those looking to adopt a dog may visit the shelter Monday through Thursday from 6 to 8 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 4 pm. Before visiting the shelter, adopters can find photos and short stories about the dogs currently available for adoption online at daws.org.
The Danbury Animal Welfare Society, Inc. (DAWS) is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals in our community and beyond.
Founded in 1974, DAWS provides shelter and care to animals in need, offers adoption counseling to place our animals in loving, forever homes, promotes responsible pet guardianship and the humane treatment of animals, and works toward ending animal overpopulation through education, spay/neuter, and trap, neuter and return programs.
