CONCORD, MASS. â Admission free afternoons are being offered at the Concord Museum on Sunday, January 9, and Sunday, January 16, from 1 to 4 pm, sponsored in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
With one of the oldest collections of Americana in the country, the museum is renowned for its national treasures. In the history galleries and period rooms of the museum, visitors discover the famous lantern hung in the steeple on the night of Paul Revereâs ride in 1775, the contents of Henry D. Thoreauâs house at Walden Pond, including the desk on which he wrote Civil Disobedience and Walden, and Ralph Waldo Emersonâs study, where he wrote his influential essays and met with other distinguished writers and thinkers during the American literary renaissance.
A nationally significant collection of Concord-made clocks, furniture and silver and other decorative arts serve to illustrate three centuries of Concordâs domestic life. A 15-minute film, Exploring Concord, is offered and there are special history treasure hunts for younger children and hands-on activities in many of the galleries of the museum.
Winter hours are in effect January 3âMarch 31. They are MondayâSaturday, 11 am to 4 pm; Sunday, 1 to 4 pm.
