Long Wharf Stage Will Be Landing Spot For Special âBirdieâ
NEW HAVEN â Bye Bye Birdie, a popular musical comedy that spoofs the reactions of fans as Americanâs number one rock-n-roll star goes to war will be offered two nights only as a special presentation on the main stage of Long Wharf Theatre. Birdie will be performed by Audubon Arts Theater Group, a theatrical ensemble of teens from the Neighborhood Music School Audubon Arts Summer Camp program.
All tickets are $5 (general admission seating). Performances will be at 7 pm Wednesday and Thursday, July 26-27.
Rumored to have been a spoof of Elvis Presley as he is drafted to serve his country during the war, Bye Bye Birdie is a fun and happy-go-lucky musical from the fifties. Featuring talented students from the Audubon Arts Camp at Neighborhood Music School (NMS), the latest version includes a cast that hails from six towns in the Greater New Haven area. Students from Bethany, Guilford, Hamden, New Haven, Woodbridge and Wallingford have spent six weeks rehearsing parts and honing roles as part of the production and staging of the show.
