Free Admission To Aldrich Museum During August

RIDGEFIELD — The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is offering free admission during the month of August. The museum will close temporarily on August 31 in order to complete an on-going renovation and expansion project.

The museum is celebrating almost 40 years of exhibitions, education, and art making inside its walls by offering all visitors free admission this month. This also marks the last opportunity to view an exhibition inside the museum’s historic 1783 “Old Hundred” building at 258 Main Street in Ridgefield. With a grand re-opening scheduled for spring 2004, The Aldrich will offer off-site exhibitions, education programs, and performances while it is closed for construction.

The renovation and expansion will restore the “Old Hundred” for administrative purposes and construct a new building – doubling the museum’s existing size – which will feature flexible climate-controlled galleries with full handicapped accessibility. A dedicated education center will also be a major feature of the new premises, serving the museum’s education programs as well as acting as a resource for the public, allowing visitors to take their experiences beyond the exhibitions with hands-on activities and drop-in hours for families.

Visit www.AldrichArt.org or call 203-438-4519 for more information on The Aldrich’s construction plans and events planned for when the museum is closed to the public.
