Interstate Crash

State police report motorist Michael Lamountain, 21, of Southbury, who was westbound on Interstate-84 near Exit 11 in a 1995 Chrysler Cirrus about 1 pm January 13, lost control of the Chrysler and struck a westbound International truck driven by William T. Doolittle, Jr, 45, of Waterbury. The Chrysler then struck a guardrail, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Lamountain was traveling too fast for conditions and failed to notify the state Department of Motor vehicles of an address change.

Exit 9 Accident

State police said motorist John Baracca, 49, of Danbury, who was driving a 1999 Honda Civic westbound on Interstate-84 west of Exit 9 about 12:30 pm January 12, made contact with a guardrail and lost a hubcap. Baracca was not injured. State police said he failed to drive in the proper lane.

Route 34 Mishap

Police report that motorist David T. Larson, 17, of 18 Crabapple Lane, who was driving a 1993 Ford Tempo westbound on Route 34 about 11:45 am January 13, lost control of the auto as he passed Zoar Road and swerved off the road shoulder, striking a rock embankment and eventually coming to rest in the middle of Route 34. The accident happened in snowy conditions. Larson was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Botsford Hill Collision

Motorist Manuel F. Afonso, 56, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1989 GMC pickup truck southbound on Botsford Hill Road about 4:30 pm January 13, skidded on snow and entered the northbound lane, resulting in a crash with motorist Margaret K. Spinner, 48, of 14 Philo Curtis Road, who was driving a 1999 Audi A-4, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Afonso a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Glen Road Rollover

Motorist Daniel A. Wilhelmy, 35, of 72 Edgelake Drive, Sandy Hook, was driving a 1993 Jeep Cherokee northbound on Glen Road about 12:11 am January 15 when he lost control of the vehicle and it spun around, slid onto the road shoulder and then rolled over before coming to rest against a tree which prevented it from tumbling down a steep embankment, police said.

Police called the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company to extricate Wilhelmy from the Jeep. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported him to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said.

Weapons Charge

Police report they responded January 14 to Newtown High School on a weapons complaint. School officials determined that student Richard Haight, Jr, 17, of 99 Church Hill Road was in possession of two knives in his vehicle on school grounds, police said. Police charged Haight with possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle. He was released for a January 25 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Hawleyville Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Hawleyville Road at the Interstate-84 Exit 9 interchange about 9 am January 14, police said.

Motorist Melissa A. Capasso, 19, of North Branford, who was driving a 1999 Ford Windstar southbound on Hawleyville Road, was attempting to make a left turn onto the westbound I-84 on-ramp when she turned in front of northbound motorist Patrick E. Callahan, 33, of New Fairfield, who was driving a Mazda 626 sedan, resulting in a crash in the northbound lane, police said.

Both motorists refused medical attention at the scene, police said. Police issued Capasso an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to grant the right of way at an intersection.

 

Hawleyville Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Hawleyville Road, Obtuse Road and Currituck Road about 4:15 pm January 17.

Police said motorist Alexander M. Clark, 66, of 1 Obtuse Road South, who was driving a 1998 Jaguar XJR, stopped on Obtuse Road in preparing to turn left onto Hawleyville Road. Police said Clark told them he could not see due to bright sunshine in his eyes and pulled out onto Hawleyville Road, colliding with oncoming motorist William F. Brunetti, 46, of 77 Butterfield Road, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet. There were no injuries or enforcement actions, police said.

High Rock Burglary

Police report that a burglary and larceny occurred sometime between the evening of January 15 and afternoon of January 16 at a High Rock Road residence. The incident was discovered by a house sitter, police said. Jewelry, electronics and coins were stolen. Police are investigating.
