Engelbergers Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary
Marge and Joe Engelberger were feted on March 22 by their children Jeff and Gay, and Gayâs husband, Kevin McNally. The venue was the Engelbergerâs home on Taunton Hill Road.
For 40 guests and relatives, the home was converted into a flowered extravaganza created by the Plant Cellar, with a raw bar and gourmet meal provided by Loreeâs Kitchen. A highlight was a video showing vignettes of 50 years of family doings.
The couple eloped to Elkton, Md., in March 1954, while they were both employed by Manning, Maxwell, and Moore in Stratford.
Moving to Newtown in 1956, Mr Engelberger set up shop in Danbury, founding Consolidated Controls Corporation (later purchased by Eaton Corporation).
Joe Engelberger is known worldwide as the âFather of Robotics,â having founded both Unimation, Inc, the first industrial robot company, and HelpMate, Inc, the first service robot company. Today, he lectures on the potential for care-giving robots to serve the elderly and infirm.
The Engelbergers are members of the Ridgewood Country Club and Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Fla. They have one grandson, Ian Engelberger of Warren.
This photo, created by artist Chuck Lockhart of Lockhart Art & Design, cleverly introduces Marge and Joe to the youngsters they were 50 years ago.
