FISH Needs Volunteer Drivers

FISH of Newtown is urgently in need of volunteer drivers. Most drivers are past their retirement age and have a few hours a week to devote to driving other Newtowners to and from doctors visits, rehabilitation therapy sessions, to the hospital for blood labs or for one-day surgery.

This organization of devoted volunteers has been in existence in Newtown since 1969. Of course, its members note, in those days, there were fewer people altogether living in Newtown… and condominiums for elderly had not yet been built. But with the advent of so much “over 55” housing and with the practice of all young mothers returning to the workforce, the pool of available volunteers has not kept pace with the demand.

A willingness to help a neighbor, a car in good repair, an up-to-date map of Newtown, and time twice a month is all that is needed to become a FISH driver. If you would like to volunteer or need more information, call Pat Parrott at 426-2282, Fred Stakel at 426-2336, or Mary Mitchell at 270-9135.
