Police Plan Sobriety Checkpoint

In the police department’s continuing effort to keep drunk and drugged drivers off local roads, police plan to conduct another sobriety checkpoint this weekend.

Police plan to hold the checkpoint on an unspecified local road on the night of Friday, December 14, and the early morning hours of Saturday, December 15, according to Sergeant Christopher Vanghele.

Seven patrol officers and a sergeant will participate in the event.

Each motorist driving in either direction past the checkpoint will be stopped and briefly interviewed to determine whether they are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. While stopped, motorists also will be checked for various motor vehicle violations.

Three-quarters of the police overtime costs for the enforcement project will be covered by grant money.
