Volunteers Wanted For

Free Snap Fitness Study

Do you want to improve your health but find it hard to get into an exercise routine? If so, you may be the ideal candidate for a free fitness study to be conducted by the Newtown Snap Fitness starting this January.

The study is limited to 50 volunteers who will participate in a moderate exercise program three times a week for three weeks under staff supervision.

“The intent is to measure the effects of regular exercise, with the goal of improving blood pressure and resting heart rate and reducing body fat and weight,” said Sarah Taylor, who along with her husband Jeff operate the local franchise.

Results of the local study will be combined with those of other towns and cities across North America to demonstrate the impact that regular physical activity can have personal health.

Participants will be led through a series of strength-building, muscle-toning exercises using Snap Fitness’s circuit-training equipment. This will be supplemented with calorie-burning cardio sessions on treadmills, stationary bikes, and steppers.

Blood pressure, body fat, and resting heart rate will be measured regularly, with a “before” and “after” summary provided at the end of the program.

“We’re all aware that regular exercise leads to a healthier life, but it’s one thing to understand that and another to actually take action,” said Ms Taylor. “Our study is intended to show our community the improvement that’s possible in just three weeks, and to inspire others to get going as well.”

Anyone interested in being a study volunteer must be between ages 22 and 75 and not exercising on a regular basis. Qualified candidates must agree to attend all nine training sessions and take a supervised fitness profile at the start and end of the program.

Participants do not have to be a Snap Fitness member, and there is no requirement to join, but they will be charged a $20 key deposit that is fully refundable if the study is completed as promised.

All results are kept confidential; only grouped results are reported on a club basis.
