NHS Boys Hang Tough But Fall To Masuk
Newtown High Schoolâs boysâ basketball team lost consecutive games for the first time this winter, dropping a 65-50 decision to Stratford on January 11 and a 60-55 game to Masuk of Monroe on January 14. Both games were on the road.
The Nighthawks fell to 3-5 overall, heading into Thursdayâs scheduled clash with Bunnell of Stratford (after The Bee went to press). The Bunnell game was a makeup contest originally slated for January 18 but postponed because of snow and freezing rain.
The Nighthawks proved they can play with the better teams in the conference and put up a fight against a tough Masuk team which improved to 8-1 overall. Kyle Wilcox led the Hawks in scoring with 15 points. Josh Engler added 13, Sean Maher scored ten, and Matt Datin added nine. Wilcox continued to dominate the boards, contributing nine rebounds, and Datin pulled down seven. Wilcox led the team with five assists.
Following the Bunnell game, the Hawks will have little time to prepare for game action as they host Immaculate of Danbury on Friday, January 21 at 7 pm.
Newtown will visit Bethel on January 25.
