Vernon E. Nelson

Army Veteran Of World War II

Vernon E. Nelson, 93, of Newtown, died January 17, in his residence, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Bridgeport, October 22, 1917, to Ida and Carl Nelson.

Mr Nelson was a member of the Greatest Generation and served in World War II, in the Army Air Corps. His plane was shot down over Germany, and he was a prisoner of war for more than a year.

He was a partner in the Peerless Hobbing Company in Bridgeport. Before his retirement, he was a member of the VFW Post of Trumbull.

Mr Nelson was a member of the Monroe Congregational Church. He enjoyed the hobbies of golf and bowling.

He is survived by a sister, Margaret Krajcik; and several nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Tora Nelson; two sisters, Hilda Bjorklund and Helen Mott; and a brother, Carl G. Nelson.

Friends are invited to attend his funeral, Friday, January 21, at noon, in the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport. Burial will be private. Friends may call at 11 am until the time of service.
