Kenneth T. Berglund

Kenneth T. Berglund, 74, of New Canaan, died February 12, at Norwalk Hospital. He was born October 3, 1936, in Bridgeport, son of Harry George Berglund and Effie Josephine Orcutt Berglund.

He grew up in Sandy Hook, where he played baseball and basketball. During his senior year at Newtown High School, “Kenny” set a record, scoring 56 points in a single basketball game. He attended the University of Connecticut and the University of Bridgeport, and served in the US Army as a military policeman.

Mr Berglund was a contracts manager at The Barden Corporation in Danbury, where he received special award proclamations in 2009 from the mayor of Danbury and the governor of Connecticut, in recognition of his 50 years of dedicated and honorable service.

He enjoyed playing golf and being a loyal fan of the New York Yankees, UConn Huskies, New York Giants, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

His children, Sherri Sauer and Glenn Berglund; his former wife, Rosemarie P. Berglund; and five siblings, including Edith Tenney of Sandy Hook and Harold Berglund of Sandy Hook, survive Mr Berglund.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Lynn Acton at Yale-New Haven Hospital, the staff at Norwalk Hospital, and Sabine Paul for their warmth, kindness, care, and support.

Calling hours were scheduled at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan, for Thursday, February 17, from 6 to 8 pm. There will be a service at 7:30 pm. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Danbury New Voices Club, c/o Ann’s Place, The Home of I Can, which provides comfort and support to people living with cancer and to their loved ones, at www.annsplace.org.
