Cross Country Teams Race In Weston
Newtown High School’s cross country teams visited Weston to take on the host Trojans, as well as New Fairfield, on September 23. The girls’ squad defeated Weston 17-41 and fell to New Fairfield 32-24. The girls’ record is 6-2. The boys had a pair of close outcomes as they defeated New Fairfield 26-31 and lost 29-28 to Weston, and are now 5-3.

Camille Johnson 21:57.3; 13. Kelsey Miller 21:59.3; 16. Hannah Schwartz 22:17.9; 18. Sarah Lyon 22:30.6; 20. Kelly Coughlin 23:34.1; 21. Caitlin Moss 23:40.9.
“Again, we had another close race and our top group is looking better each week. The top three only had ten seconds difference between them,” Newtown Coach Doug Russell said. “They ran well together and helped with our scoring today.”
The team will compete in the Winding Trails Invitational this Saturday; a year ago, the Nighthawks won the large school division at the event. Boys’ results: 4. Kyle Mangold 17:26; 6. “The fab frosh were in full force once again today after winning the freshman race at the Stratton Brook Invitational on Saturday,” said Newtown Coach David Foss, noting that the trio of Duval, Lestik, and Bent were second, third, and fifth for the team.
