Brenda J. (Somogie) Jones, 60, of Evansville, Ind., died January 21 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, N.H., after a four-year battle with cancer.
Born April 9, 1944, in Evansville, she spent her childhood in Newtown and graduated from Newtown High School, Class of 1962; Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, 1965; and University of Evansville, nursing, magna cum laude, 1978.
She served in the Air Force as a nurse at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., from 1965 to 1968. Brenda taught nursing and also worked in pediatrics. In Evansville she was a dedicated school nurse at the Stockwell Elementary School. She recently returned to New England to be close to her family where she took up residence in Nashua, N.H.
Brenda was an avid walker and enjoyed music, poetry, and hiking. She was loved by all who knew her, and will be remembered for her strength, compassion, and humor.
She was predeceased by her father, Edward Somogie, and a brother, James Somogie.
Members of her family include her mother Garnette Somogie of Nashua, N.H.; sisters, Joanie Conroy of Seymour and Deborah and her husband Greg Hamblett of Tyngsboro, Mass.; brothers, Allen and his wife Leslie Somogie of Pelham, N.H., Gary and his wife Beverly Somogie of North Andover, Mass., and David Somogie of Nashua, N.H.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson, N.H., is in charge of arrangements.
