In Free Weston Concert

WESTON — Jazz enthusiasts may want to consider Weston Library the place to be on Saturday, February 5. On that evening, Brian Torff and Florence Melnotte will perform a free concert at 8 pm in the library’s community room.

Mr Torff is a renowned jazz bassist and composer, and is currently music program director at Fairfield University. He is a featured bass soloist and appears frequently with this blues jazz power trio Thunderstick, Naim recording artists The Union Trio, and a number of other groups. He performs in jazz festivals across the country, founded the popular Fairfield University Summer Jazz Camp, and has served as a co-chairman on the music advisory board for the National Endowment for the Arts.

From 1980 to 1991, Ms Melnotte was a student of classical music at L’Ecole Normale de Paris. She continued her jazz studies at CIM, and has toured extensively in Europe and Africa, winning many awards. She has recently been featured at Scoozi in New Haven and Penguins in Branford.

On February 5, Mr Torff and Ms Melnotte will perform a number of favorites including “Autumn Leaves,” “In Your Own Sweet Way,” “Someday My Prince Will Come,” and Mr Torff’s original “Working on Bassline,” among other selections.
