Great Backyard Bird Count

DERBY — Calling all backyard birders – this is your chance to make your sightings count. On Friday, February 18, and Saturday, February 19, join in the Great Backyard Bird Count at Kellogg Environmental Center and assist with this nationwide survey.

Families, beginning birders and avid birders are all invited. Every chickadee, cardinal and nuthatch must be counted, and nature centers are looking for help from the public.

Join volunteer Tom Sharp on February 18 or environmental educator Roger Lawson on February 19 to help identify and record the birds that visit feeders at the Kellogg Environmental Center. The program will run from 9 to 11 am both days.

For more information or to register for this event, contact the Kellogg Center at 203/734-2513. The Center, operated by the DEP’s Office of Communications and Education, is at 500 Hawthorne Avenue (Route 34) in Derby.
