Coming out of the loser’s bracket, Hurd Construction earned a trip to the Sunday Slo-Pitch Softball_League championship with a pair of thrilling wins.

With an 11-9 win over Botsford Drive-In (11-2 during the regular season) and a 13-12 extra-inning win over Hip-Hip-Huray (9-5), Hurd Construction – which finished in third with a 9-5 record – has a chance now to defend its 1999 championship against JP Maguire (7-6).

The championship game will be Sunday at 9 am at Dickinson Park. Hurd must beat Maguire twice, while Maguire - undefeated in the postseason - has to win just once.

In the win over Botsford, Michael Lancaster rapped out four hits while Bill Hurd and Kyle Trocolla had three hits apiece. The crafty Hurd pitched a solid game while Trocolla had a fine defensive game at second.

In the win over Huray, Scott Hurd collected four hits, scored three runs, and even knocked in the game-winning run in the 10th inning. Frank Lancaster and Jim Trocolla had three hits apiece while Bill Hurd pitched well and Bob McHugh was solid defensively at first base.
