‘March Of The Living’ Programs

For Holocaust Group

WOODBURY — Holocaust survivors and children of survivors are invited to a breakfast meeting on Sunday, August 5, at 10 am at the office of the Federation: Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut, 73 Main Street in Woodbury.

Newtown resident Laurie Kilchevsky and her daughter, Raquefette, will talk about their participation in the “March of the Living” in Poland and Israel this past spring.

There will also be an update on the latest information on the court decisions regarding compensation. Information and applications will be available for former slave and forced laborers to collect reparations from the Confederate on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany. Survivors and their heirs are reminded that the deadline for filing those forms is August 11, 2001. Free individual appointments for help filling out the forms are available by calling the Federation office.

The Second Generation and Holocaust Survivors Group was formed over three years ago for people who want to get together to discuss issues connected with being Holocaust survivors or the children of survivors. Guest speakers and members of the group talk about many topics, including their stories and experiences during the war and how to educate future generations about the Holocaust.

The group has been growing and evolving, and more than 60 people from all over the state have attended the meetings. There are usually 12 to 18 people at each meeting. The Sunday morning talks are friendly, informal, and very much appreciated by those who attend.

Survivors and children of survivors are always welcome to attend these meetings, which are free of charge and sponsored by Brownstein Jewish Family Service of the Jewish Federation. The next meeting will take place on Sunday, September 30. Please RSVP for the August 5 meeting, as a light breakfast will be served. For more information, contact Debby Horowitz, program director of Brownstein Jewish Family Service, at 203-2632-5121, extension 304.
