Openings For ‘Music Is Fun’

Cathy Urso is offering a new six-week workshop for Newtown and area children.

“Music Is Fun,” a children’s workshop, will emphasize singing and the formation of a choral group, which Mrs Urso feels is a unique musical experience that will provide fun and learning of musical renditions. Children will participate in a variety of musical activities oriented around a musical production to be presented during the final week of the workshop.

Children in grades 2 through 7 are eligible.

“Music Is Fun” will meet in The Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown. The workshop will meet on Wednesdays, September 15 to October 20, from 3:30 until 5:30 each week.

Cost is $150 per child. Call 206-1962 for details or registration.

Mrs Urso is a musician, composer, singer and songwriter. She is a prior music instructor for the towns of Pleasantville and Mount Pleasant, and a former member of Westchester Songwriters Guild, and also of Ridgefield Center for the Performing Arts.

She has worked with professors from Concordia College, putting together original musical renditions critiqued by Arista Records. She also has experience working with children through music camps in Westchester. She has directed shows and choral performances in Pleasantville and Mount Pleasant, and has written over 30 original musical renditions.

After having worked in corporate America for 18 years, Mrs Urso wants to return to her artistic roots. A scholarship fund will be generated from “Music Is Fun.”
