Richter Preparing For 21st Outdoor Theater Season
DANBURY â Musicals at Richter, Connecticutâs longest running outdoor theater nestled in the hills of western Danbury, will present three award-winning musicals for its 21st season. This yearâs shows include Stephen Sondheimâs magical adventure Into the Woods, June 16 to July 2, directed by Kyle Minor of Danbury; Arthur Kopit and Maury Yestonâs romantic thriller Phantom, July 7-23, directed by Donald Birely of New York City; and Rodgers and Hammersteinâs perennial favorite The Sound of Music, July 28 to August 13, also directed by Mr Birely.
Performances are outdoors at Richter Arts Center, at 100 Aunt Hack Road â adjacent to the golf course in Danbury.
Performances for the mainstage musicals at Richter Arts Center are Friday through Sunday evenings at 8:30 pm, with specially priced preview performances the first Thursday of each run (June 16, July 7 and July 28). Grounds open at 7:15 for picnicking.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $12 for students and children. Tickets for the Thursday preview performances are $10. Group rates are available and chair rentals may be made with advance reservation.
Musicals at Richter will also continue its popular Fairy Tale Theatre series for children Saturday mornings in July. Performed by an ensemble of young actors under the direction of Elyse Jasensky of Danbury, the productions feature music, arts and crafts activities, and plenty of audience participation.
Shows include Snow White on July 9, Jungle Book on July 16, Hansel and Gretel on July 23, and Beauty and the Beast on July 30.
Performances for Fairy Tale Theater are outdoors at nearby Wooster School, 91 Miry Brook Road in Danbury. Grounds open at 10:30 am for a performance-related craft activity, and curtain is at 11.
Tickets are $5 for adults and children. Audience members should bring blankets and chairs for lawn seating.
