Fresh off a strong season with the Newtown High School softball team, Jenna Legros – now heading into her sophomore year – help lead the U14 Connecticut Charmers team to a third place finish at the recent U14 Pony Nationals in Sterling, Virginia.

The Charmers – who boast as alumnae Lisa Morgan (Newtown), Caitlin Smith (Brookfield) and Kim Ovittore (Lauralton Hall) – lost to eventual champion Sarasota, Florida. Nearly 120 teams competed in the tournament.

Legros fired a no-hitter against the Lady Fireballs of Pennsylvania in the Sweet Sixteen to advance the Charmers to the quarterfinals. Legros just missed a perfect game as one Fireballs player reached bade on an error.

It was the second shutout in the tournament for Legros, who finished up with a 0.77 earned run average and 30 strikeouts in 27 innings of work. The Charmers were 8-2 in the tournament and out-scored their opponents, 57-18.

During the summer travel season, the Charmers participated in several U16 tournaments to ready themselves for Nationals. They won two U16 PONY qualifier tournaments and finished near the top in every other tournament in which they played.

The girls on the team represent powerhouses Seymour High and  Lauralton Hall, as well as Bunnell, Naugatuck and Newtown High Schools.
