Where The Food Goes
To the Editor:
I would like to let Newtowners know that the $10 food bags they are buying at the Big Y Supermarket for food banks are not staying here in Newtown. Every single food item that is purchased is being shipped back to Big Y Headquarters in Massachusetts. There, they will be redistributed, with most of the food going to Massachusetts Food Banks. Only some of the items will be shipped to the Connecticut Food Bank and only some of the items sent to Connecticut Food Bank will make it back here to Newtown and Sandy Hook.
A hungry person is a hungry person. It doesnât matter where they live, but if you want to want to help out Newtownâs needy, you must take the bag yourself and bring it to one of our banks, like the Faith Food Pantry.
