STRIKERS 7, SOUTHBURY 4: The Strikers played a 52-minute match with no substitutes, but nevertheless had the stamina to win. Mike Vanasse scored four goals and Sean Rawson added two more to lift the Strikers to the win, Nathan Walzer also scored. Mike Bonsignore solidifed the defensive effort along with some outstanding goaltender by Walzer and David Kugielsky. Mathew Miller support many offensive runs and distributed the ball for two assists.

Wilton Tournament

 

KNOCKOUTS 1, YANKEE UNITED 0: Kaitlyn Fenton scored the lone goal while Emma Mueller and Sara Salbu played tough defense in the victory.

KNOCKOUTS 1, WESTON BLACK 0: Katie Stickles assisted Kaitlyn Fenton on the only goal to lead the Knockouts to the win. Amy Doyle make a solid save in goal with two minutes left to preserve the victory.

KNOCKOUTS 1, WILTON 1: Kaitlyn Fenton scored the goal and Karoline Engel had a great game all over the field to stymie Wilton.

KNOCKOUTS 4, WESTON WHITE 2: Kristen Davis, Kelly Corrigan, Stacey Shpunt and Kaitlyn Fenton all scored as the Knockouts clipped Weston.

KNOCKOUTS 2, WESTON BLACK 0 (Semi-Finals): Caitlin Weber and Kaitlyn Fenton scored one goal apiece as the Knockouts blanked Weston. Amy Doyle recorded her third shutout in goal.

KNOCKOUTS 2, YANKEE UNITED 1 (Finals): Kristen Davis scored off a corner kick in the first two minutes of play and Kaitlyn Fenton added a late goal as the Knockouts nipped Yankee United in a thrilling game to capture the Wilton Indoor Soccer Tournament championship.

The Newtown Rockets claimed the championship title in the Wilton Indoor Soccer Tournament last Saturday The Rockets were 3-1-0 going into the semi-finalsand then defeated Danbury, 2-0, to go on to the Finals. There, the Rockets defeated Westport, 1-0, on a dramatic last minute goal by Casey Frobey. Playing for Newtown were Mary Anders, Casey Frobey, Tara Gaston, Mary Grace Ober, Alex Konneker, Christie Zingoni, Megan Rawson and Jill Tanner. The team is coached by Dave Frobey.
