Two Violations

Late on the night of May 29, police stopped motorist Luis Rodriguez, 23, of Bridgeport near 76 South Main Street after noticing that the vehicle he was driving had a taillamp that was not illuminated.

After investigating, police charged Rodriguez with having a defective taillamp and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released Rodriguez on $100 bail for a June 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Car Off Road

Motorist Janice Nolan Faye, 51, of 8-A Walker Hill Road was driving a 2002 Jeep southward near 113 South Main Street about 10:09 am on May 29, when the vehicle struck a curbside mailbox, a rock wall, and a wooden fence, police said.

Although Faye apparently was not injured, she was transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital to be checked, police said. The incident is under investigation.

Property Damage

Police are investigating a case of property damage at a Bennetts Bridge Road property near that street’s intersection with Jeremiah Road.

Sometime between 2:30 pm on May 25, and 6 am on May 26, a curbside mailbox there was damaged by some vehicle, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of who caused the damage to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Park Vandalized

Sometime overnight on June 2–June 3, vandals upended several picnic tables and benches at the Dickinson Park pavilion and also put graffiti on the door for a storage shed and on a garbage can, police report. Police are investigating the criminal mischief and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them.

Drug Charge

Police report that at about 3 pm on May 26, they charged a local 15-year-old boy with illegal possession of a restricted substance.

Police were alerted of the situation after the boy’s parents found some prescription drugs, which the boy was unauthorized to have, in the boy’s bedroom.

The boy is scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court to answer the charge.

Currituck Road

Motorist Michael Slimak, 45, of 7 Newbury Road was driving a 2008 Lincoln Navigator SUV eastward on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Hedge Meadow Lane, about 11:40 am May 29, police said. The Lincoln was traveling behind an unidentified eastbound vehicle, police said.

At that time, a deer ran out onto the street and was hit by the unidentified vehicle, after which the deer was hit by the Lincoln, police said. The owner of the unidentified vehicle did not stop, police said.

Slimak was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Theft Of Money

Police said they arrested a girl at Newtown Middle School about 1:40 pm on June 4 for allegedly having stolen an unspecified amount of money from a teacher’s wallet there. Police charged the youth with sixth-degree larceny, which involves the loss of less than $500. Because of her young age, police did not disclose the youth’s identity. She is scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on June 21.

Package Missing

Sometime between 3 pm on May 27, and 11:39 am on June 3, someone removed a Federal Express package, which had been left at 60 Elizabeth Circle at the Walnut Tree Village age-restricted condominium complex on Walnut Tree Hill Road, police report. Anyone with information on the missing package is asked to contact officer Steve Borges at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Cedar Hill Break-In

Police are investigating a burglary in which someone broke into a Cedar Hill Road home and stole multiple unspecified items from the premises. Police received a report on the crime on the morning of June 2. Anyone with knowledge of the incident is asked to contact police.

 

Emergency Vehicle

Police report that at about 6 pm on June 1, while traveling to a motor vehicle accident, a 2006 Spartan fire rescue truck driven by Robert Manna, 35, of 100 Glen Road, of the Newtown Hook & Ladder Company, No 1, was heading northward on Main Street, behind northbound motorist Martha Crebbin, 41, of 20 Valley View Road, who was driving a 1997 Toyota Corolla sedan.

The Hook & Ladder rescue truck had its emergency lights and sirens activated, police said. The Toyota pulled over to the right to let the rescue truck pass by, but the rescue truck accidentally struck the Toyota from behind, police said.

The rescue truck had four passengers; the Toyota had two passengers. There were no injuries. Manna received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

Sugar Street

Motorist Donna Barrett, 62, of 9 Little Brook Lane, was driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV westward on Sugar Street, near its intersection with Head O’ Meadow Road, about 3:30 pm June 5, when the auto veered off the right side of the road and struck a tree, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Barrett to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. The accident is under investigation.

Bus Vs Flagpole

Police report that Luz Martinez, 49, of Hillburn, N.Y., was driving a 2010 GMC school bus at about 10:47 am June 4, when Martinez attempted to make a left turn from westbound Church Hill Road onto southbound Main Street by driving to the left of the Main Street flagpole, rather than by keeping to the right of the flagpole, as required by law.

The front end of the bus hit the flagpole, damaging the bus, but not damaging the flagpole, police said.

The bus, which is registered to a Plainview, N.Y., firm, carried no passengers, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Martinez a written warning for failure to obey traffic signs and markings.

 

Intersection

Police report a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Sugar Street, Main Street, Glover Avenue, and South Main Street about 10:40 am June 3.

The incident involved motorist Norma Castro, 28, Danbury, who was driving a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage sedan, and Theodore Reinheimer, 26, of Southbury, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet K-3500 truck which was hauling a trailer.

There were no injuries. Police said that Castro was following too closely and failed to carry a driver’s license.

South Main Street

Motorist Robert Weber, 62, of the United Kingdom was driving a 2010 Toyota Matrix southward near 98 South Main Street about 1:39 pm June 3, when an unoccupied 1996 Pontiac Grand Am coupe, which was parked in a nearby parking lot, rolled out onto the street and collided with the Toyota, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Pontiac owner Stephanie Gamble of Wolcott an infraction for having an ineffective parking brake system.

Minivan Crash

Motorist Eric Anderson, 23, of New Milford was driving a 2001 Chrysler Voyager minivan northward on Route 34, near Great Quarter Road, about 8:17 pm June 3, when he took his attention off of his driving and the vehicle went off the right road shoulder, striking some rock ledge, according to police.

Anderson was not injured. Police said they verbally warned Anderson for making a restricted turn.

Altercation

Police report they responded to the Botsford Firehouse at 315 South Main Street at about 8:21 pm June 7, after receiving a call that a physical fight was in progress there.

Police said that after investigating the incident, they charged Marc Cartisano, 52, of 5 Scenic View Drive with second-degree breach of pace.

Police released Cartisano on a written promise to appear on June 22 in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Incident

About 6:09 am on June 6, a passing motorist called to report that an erratic driver was traveling on Berkshire Road, police said.

Police said they went to the area and discovered that the driver in question had become involved in one-vehicle accident on Berkshire Road near one of its intersections with Chestnut Hill Road.

Motorist Scott Yetter, 24, of Oxford was not injured in the accident, according to police. After conducting field sobriety tests, police charged Yetter with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

Police released Yetter on $400 bail for a June 24 court appearance.

Larceny

Police said they were called to the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street about 6 pm on June 8 to conduct an investigation of an alleged theft there.

Police said they later charged Francis E. Dralus, Jr, 53, of Monroe with sixth-degree larceny.

Dralus was released on a written promise to appear in court on June 23, police report.
