Adopt A Dog From The Pound

The following dogs are available for adoption from the Newtown pound, which is located at the end of Ethan Allen Road (behind the transfer station).

ROCKY is a one year old neutered male Rottweiler. He has begun some needed basic training. He is a very playful young boy and loves to run and jump, so a household with small children may not be the best choice. He is a impressive looking dog who learns quickly.

TAZ is a 2-3 year-old male Pit bull. Taz is a great dog that enjoys being a loyal sidekick and buddy. Taz is a strong dog who would require an owner that can handle this young boy. He would not do well in a home with small dogs. He loves to run and jump but he can be as lazy as your family after a Thanksgiving feast. This is the perfect dog for someone looking to go for a nice walk and play ball, or read a good book with Taz curled up with you.

LEO is a 1-2 year-old male Pit bull. Leo has gone through some basic training and has a very playful personality. He has a very cute face and brilliant markings. Young and energetic sums up Leo pretty well. Pound officials are not sure how he is with cats but he seems to want to play with other easy-going dogs.

RUSSELL is a 5-6-year-old boxer-mix who is a lot like an old man, set in his ways. He came to the pound filthy and scared, but has made quite a turn-around since he arrived. It takes him some time to warm up to new people — and he’d prefer to be the only pet — but once Russell’s settled in he’s a great dog to be around. He’d make a perfect sidekick for a single guy or gal, who likes an athletic dog without an overwhelming energy level. But like an old man, he can sometimes be a bit stubborn and needs someone willing to let him know who is boss when it’s necessary. Though he’s a little gray in the beard, he has plenty of life left in him, and the pound volunteers say he makes a great jogging partner.

THEO is a 2-3-year-old love-bug of a Staffordshire Terrier. Pound officials have no idea why someone left him in a snow storm, because this dog loves people, and most other dogs — though they sometimes find his limitless energy a bit overwhelming. Theo, who had no training when he came to the pound, has really turned around. He’s become quite good on a leash, is learning to come when he’s called, and is generally an all-around great dog. It’s not determined what Theo’s like with cats, but pound officials have a feeling felines would find his doggy-exuberance quite undignified. Although he has a ton of energy, his favorite place to be is under the desk in the pound’s office, laying at someone’s feet. Although he’s probably too rambunctious for small children, he would make a great companion for almost anyone.

WINSTON, a 4-year-old Jack Russell-mix, shows signs of being abused. He can be a bit hand-shy but pound volunteers and officials have been working on him. Once he becomes attached to someone he is an absolute sweetheart. He loves to go for walks — so much so that he’s lost quite a few extra pounds since he’s been at the shelter. Winston would like a quiet home where he can get out for walks and be the center of your attention. He’s the perfect size for an older person looking for a low-key companion.

MAX is a 2-3-year-old Shar Pei. He came to the pound with an extremely irritating eye-condition which made it difficult for him to see, and very wary around strangers. He recently had surgery to correct the problem which seems to have put a bit of extra pep in his step. As he adjusts to life with better vision and less pain, Max likes to take long walks and play with his toys. Like may in his breed, Max tends to be independent. He’ll make a great companion for someone looking for a loyal, low-key friend.
