Scholarships Available

The Newtown High School Career Center publicizes all scholarships of which it is notified. A few of the scholarships , typically national ones, request that money be enclosed with the application.

The Career Center believes that students should not have to pay to apply for scholarships. If a student chooses to apply for a scholarship that charges a fee, however, the Career Center strongly advises parents and students to check its authenticity through the FTC Consumer Response Center, www.ftc.gov or 877-FTC-HELP; the National Fraud Information Center, www.fraud.org or 800-876-7060; or the Better Business Bureau, www.bbb.org or 703-276-0100.

Presidential Scholarship-Villanova University — The Presidential Scholarship is a renewable, merit-based award covering full tuition and text books, in addition to room and board at Villanova University. Presidential Scholars are transformational leaders both on and off campus who have demonstrated a love of learning and a commitment to enhancing both their local and broader civic communities. The school has revised the application process for Presidential Scholars by replacing exclusive reliance upon performance on standardized tests with a nomination process now permitting assessment of candidate credentials on more holistic criteria: leadership, civic engagement, creativity, and expertise in a particular field, and resiliency. To be considered, students must be nominated and must submit a completed Villanova admission application by December 1. Upon nomination, students will be given further instruction on how to apply for the Presidential Scholarship. Refer to the website for additional information www.villanova.edu/scholarships.
