Hawks Youth Cross Country Recap; Winter Track Signups

The Newtown Hawks Youth Cross Country teams finished with winning records again this season. The boys’ team was 11-4 with a fourth place finish at the Western Connecticut Conference Championship Meet.

Led by Tyler Dullinger in sixth place, Jacob Steinebrey in 24th, Riley Rising in 30th, Joel Duval in 33rd, Ethan Burg in 43rd, Peter Fagerholm in 52nd, and Kris Whelan in 70th, the boys beat 11 other teams for their best conference finish in the three years the race has been held.

Riley Rising and Kris Whelan went on to run in the rescheduled State Championship Meet and finished in 9th and 66th, respectively, among more than 350 competitors.

The girls’ team was 13-2 in regular season meets. But illness and injury plagued the small squad and they finished sixth in the WCC meet. Julia DiMartino, a sixth grader, led the team with her 37th place finish, followed by Julia Faxon in 45th, Molly Begg in 66th, Clare Boyle in 71st, Madeline Meier in 74th, and Megan Nahmias in 75th.

Indoor track begins on December 13 at Newtown Youth Academy. For information, go to www.newtownhawks.com
