Annual Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard Open House, 10 am–2 pm, at 2CHG headquarters, 4 Wildlife Drive (off Trades Lane, near Reed Intermediate School), free admission, mounted cavalry drills and musical ride, pony rides for children, meet members of one of country’s oldest horse cavalry units still in service and some of its 36 horses in residence; 426-9046.

Newtown Forest Association Guided Nature Walk, starts half-hour before sunset (rain date August 21), Holcombe Hill Wildlife Preserve, 55 Great Hill Road, join NFA board members for easy hike while learning the history of the property and discussion of plants and wildlife that might be found along the walk, will last about an hour, NFA is offering monthly walks until mid-October to celebrate Tercentennial; 270-3650.
