Registrations for the 29th annual Newtown Open – sponsored by the Newtown Tennis Association – are being taken right now (see form to the left).

The deadline for entering has been extended to Saturday, April 17, according to NTA president Hugh Lavery.

Draw sheets will be mailed in early April. Players will need to arrange their own early-round matches by the deadline dates shown, preferably playing on outdoor hard courts at mutually-convenient times. The semi-finals and finals will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 12 and 13, at Dickenson Park (or at an indoor facility should inclement weather arise).

The Newtown Open is the area’s premier tennis competition and a lot of hard work goes into planning and running this event. Tournament officials urge players to exhibit sportsmanlike attitudes – defaulting on a match because of other commitments (excluding emergencies) is unsportsmanlike and inconsiderate to your opponent, to tournament officials, and to sponsors and spectators.

The policy is that players who default without notification and sufficient cause may not be permitted to enter future NTA tournaments.

Also note – your fully-paid entry must reach P.O. Box 3432 by April 17. Enter as early as possible.   Entries arriving without payment and proper address, zip code and phone information (including area codes) will not be included in the draw!

For further information, contact Hugh Lavbery at 426-2740, Gene Bernard at 426-3945 or check the NTA web site at www.NTAweb.com.
